Grading Policies and Expectations: Grades on art assignments and projects are based on following project guidelines, meeting deadlines, and putting forth maximum productive effort in the classroom. I will expect each student to meet deadlines and not to wait until the last minute to complete assigned projects. Assignments and deadlines are announced and posted in class. Each homework assignment is usually worth 10-20 points, and each project is worth 100 points. The quarter grade is calculated by total points possible. All points earned are divided by the total points possible. Net Classroom displays all grades as a percentage. Please call or email me if you have any questions. Due dates are important! Students are expected to meet all project deadlines and to complete assigned homework. Assigned work is due at the beginning of the period unless otherwise stated. If a student is absent from class, he or she is responsible for work assigned prior to the absence, at the discretion of the teacher. It is the responsibility of the student to make up all missed work. Upon return to school, the student will meet with the teacher at the start of class to set a new due date for the missed work. In the event of other extenuating circumstances, the student should make arrangements to speak with the teacher in advance of the due date. No late work will be accepted after the academic quarter ends. The classroom is open two days per week for Open Studio. At Open Studio, students can work on class assignments with teacher assistance as needed. The days for Open Studio are usually Mondays and Wednesdays. Dates are posted on the board on a weekly basis. Re-Grading Policy: The re-grading policy is designed to encourage students to refine and re-think their completed work and to reward the process of revising their art. This policy applies to art projects worth more than 20 points. When a completed project is turned in on time, after grading, the student has the opportunity to complete additional work on the project and to turn it in to be re-graded, before the end of the quarter. Quizzes or tests are not included in the re-grading policy. Once a project is re-graded, the new grade replaces the old grade. Any late penalties on the original submission remain part of the grade. All re-grades must be submitted by the beginning of the last week of the quarter. Re-grades only apply to work that was due during that academic quarter. Dropping grades/ Extra credit: No grades are dropped as a regular policy. There is no extra credit policy or precedent. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the re-grading policy to show improvement and to earn additional points on assignments worth more than 20 points. |
